Acropolis Athens Tour Prices and What Each Fare Buys

A $33 walk and a $423 family tour can both call themselves an Acropolis tour, and they are not the same morning. The price tells you three things: whether the €30 ticket is in it, who explains the site, and whether you share the guide. What does an Acropolis tour cost?

Why does the "from" price rarely include the ticket?

Most operators sell the guide on its own and the ticket as an option. That suits anyone who already holds a ticket or enters free: a child under 18 from outside the EU pays nothing at the gate, so a family would overpay on a fare that bundles adult tickets.

The result is that the headline figure flatters most tours. A shared walk from $33 becomes a walk plus a €30 ticket. Compare like with like: if you need a ticket, compare the options that include one. The shared walks with tickets in the fare cost $109 to $164.

What are the official ticket prices?

• Acropolis and Slopes: €30 full, €15 reduced. One price all year on the Ministry's page.
• Acropolis Museum: €20 general, €10 reduced. EU visitors under 25 enter free; visitors under 25 from outside the EU pay the reduced price.
• Ancient Agora: €20 full, €10 reduced, including the Agora's museum.

At the Acropolis, children under 18 from outside the EU and EU citizens under 25 enter free with ID. Buy from the Ministry's own service, tickets.hh.gr, or the museum's own site, and you pay exactly these figures.

What does a shared guided walk cost?

$33 to $55 a head on the options without tickets, and $109 to $164 on the walks that put tickets in the fare. The difference between the two ends is mostly tickets, time and lunch, not a better guide. Every walk gives you a licensed guide, and most add a headset.

The monuments walk with an optional museum is a fair example of how options stack. The lowest fare buys about two hours on the rock with a licensed guide. The museum option adds about an hour inside. The ticket options add the entrance fees. You choose the fare that matches what you already hold.

What does a private archaeologist cost?

$175 to $264 a head, or $423 for a family of up to ten. The fares that include the Acropolis ticket sit at the top of that range; the skip-the-line private tour at $264 buys two hours with the timed tickets already bought.

Per head, a private guide costs several times a shared walk. You are paying for the group size, the start time and a guide who answers your questions, not for a different site. For two travelers that is a luxury. For a party of six on per-person fares it is six fares, which is why the family fare exists.

What does a driver tour cost, and what does a guide add?

$129 to $176 a head for a private car and driver. That buys the car, the pickup and, on most, water on board. It does not buy a guide inside the Acropolis: the drivers are not licensed to guide inside the archaeological sites.

Where a licensed guide is offered as an extra, the listings price it at €350 on the full-day tour, €300 on the half-day sightseeing tour and €250 on the four-hour tour. The Mercedes half day with lunch shows its lowest figure, $49, for a shared small-group seat, not for the private car.

What do the museum and Agora combinations cost?

Buy the museum ticket yourself and it costs €20. On a tour, the museum is usually a dearer option of the Acropolis walk. The walks with both tickets in the fare run $109 to $164, and they differ mostly in how long they give the second site and whether lunch is included.

• Acropolis and museum, tickets in: the all-included walk at $161 and the lunch walk at $164.
• Acropolis and Agora, tickets in: $109 with about 40 minutes in the Agora, or $127 with about 90.
• Acropolis and museum, tickets on a dearer option: from $33.

Is it per person or per family?

Per person, almost everywhere. Every private archaeologist tour and every driver tour here prices each traveler, so a party of four pays four fares even though nobody else joins. The private family tour is the one exception: $423 covers your group of up to ten, with tickets extra.

For a family of six, it works out cheaper per head than any private archaeologist fare.

What costs extra: tips, lunch or pickup?

• Tips. Left out of the fare on the listings that mention them, and your choice at the end. The shore-excursion operator suggests 10% for the guide and 5% for the driver.
• Lunch. In the fare only on the lunch walk and the Mercedes half day, and on the full-day tour's options that name it.
• Hotel pickup. On the driver tours, and on the vehicle option of the private museum tour. The walks meet at an office or café near Acropolis metro station.
• Headphones. Not included with the ticket and audio guide.
• Museum tickets. Extra unless the option names them, even on some tours that include the Acropolis ticket.

Can you get your money back?

On the tours, yes. Every tour here refunds in full if you cancel at least 24 hours before the start. The one exception is the ticket with an audio or live guide: it is non-refundable, and its date and slot cannot be changed.

That makes early booking cheap. Operators warn that summer slots sell out, so book the fare you want as soon as your date is fixed, and cancel in time if your plans move. The shore excursion also refunds in full if your ship cannot dock.

Which fare is the best value for you?

• One or two adults, first visit: a shared walk with the ticket option.
• A family of five or more: the per-family private tour, tickets bought separately with free entry for eligible children.
