The Acropolis on a timed ticket, without the driver
This is the one thing to understand before you book. Your driver knows the history and talks you through it on the road, but drivers are not licensed to go inside the archaeological sites or the museum. At the Acropolis you are dropped at the entrance and walk the rock for about an hour on your own. The same happens at the Agora.
If you want the monuments explained inside, you have two choices. You can ask the operator for a licensed guide, which costs €350 extra, depending on availability. Lycabettus, the Agora and Syntagma
After the Acropolis, the car takes you past the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium, then stops for about 15 minutes at the viewpoint on Mount Lycabettus. You walk the Ancient Agora and its museum on your ticket. Note that since 1 November 2025 the Ministry has closed the exhibition on the floor of the Stoa of Attalos and the Church of the Holy Apostles to visitors.
In the city center you stop at Syntagma Square and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier. The day ends with lunch and time in Plaka. The Acropolis Museum is not in the fare on any option, so if you want it, add €20 and an hour to the plan.
Private or small group, with or without tickets
The fare from $176 per person is the lowest of several versions. A private version without tickets or lunch, a private all-inclusive version and a small-group all-inclusive version are sold side by side. Read the option name before you pay, since it decides whether tickets and lunch are yours to buy. The small-group version does not collect you: it meets outside the Herodion Hotel at 09:00.
A day from pickup to Plaka
- Pickup. At your hotel or the cruise port on the private option; the driver waits up to 30 minutes.
- The Acropolis, about an hour. The Parthenon, the Propylaea, Athena Nike and the Erechtheion on your timed ticket.
- Olympian Zeus and the Stadium. Seen from the car on the way across the city.
- Mount Lycabettus, about 15 minutes. A stop at the viewpoint over Athens.
- The Ancient Agora and its museum. On your ticket, walked without the driver.
- Syntagma Square. The Monument to the Unknown Soldier, about 15 minutes.
- Lunch, then Plaka. The last stop before you are driven back.
Who this suits, and who should book something else
Book this if
You have one day in Athens, perhaps from a cruise ship, and you want everything handled: the pickup, the tickets, the lunch and the rides between sites in the heat. It suits families with small children, since infant seats are offered, and travelers who use a wheelchair, since the transport is wheelchair accessible.
Book something else if
You want someone to explain the monuments inside the sites. The private Acropolis tour with a licensed archaeologist does that, and its vehicle version adds a car. Pickup at your hotel or ship, or the Herodion Hotel at nine
On the private option the driver collects you at your Athens hotel or at the cruise port, and brings you back at the end. They wait up to 30 minutes at the pickup point; after that, with no contact, the booking counts as a no-show. Airport pickups cost extra.
On the small-group option you meet the driver outside the Herodion Hotel, Rovertou Galli 4, near Acropolis metro station, at 09:00. The driver waits no more than 15 minutes there. See it on the Acropolis map of entrances and meeting points.
Know before you go
- The driver does not come in. Book a licensed guide for €350, or plan to read up before you go.
- Your tickets are timed. If you arrive late you can lose them, and replacements are at your expense.
- The museum ticket is not included. The Acropolis Museum or the National Archaeological Museum is extra.
- Tell them about wheelchairs and infants. Message the operator after booking so the right vehicle comes.
- More than fourteen of you? Make several bookings and tell the operator you are one party.
- Check the option name. It decides whether tickets and lunch are in your fare.

Can the driver guide me inside the Acropolis?
No. The driver tours state that their drivers are not licensed to guide inside the archaeological sites. Where the listing prices a licensed guide as an extra, it costs €250 to €350.
Will someone explain the Parthenon to us?
